For 3 years Alan was employed as the Senior Instructor at Skydive Strathallen and during that time he won a gold medal in May 2000 as a member of the Scottish Accuracy Team.
In 2001 he became the Club Chief Instructor at Skydive St. Andrews which made him responsible for all the safety, instruction and aviation aspects of Scotlands largest parachute centre.
Alan has organised and conducted a number of high profile skydiving displays throught the UK including jumps into Premiership football stadiums, the British Grand Prix and the RAC Rally.
We asked Alan why he likes instructing so much..
I enjoy watching my students learn and progress, I get a huge amount of satisfaction seeing them achieve and qualify as skydivers. Then I can continue to watch them throughout their jumping career, it's great when they do well and even win medals, I feel very proud and think "I taught them".
Alan has a well earned reputation for being a hard working yet easy going instructor. He is regularly contacted by the British Army to teach military personnel sport skydiving on overseas trips and has so far instructed on expeditions run for the Royal Engineers, Royal Marines, Devon and Dorset Regiment and the 16th Air Assault Brigade.
When not in the air you'll find Alan on the ground encouraging his students or giving advice on anything from parachuting equipment to the best bars in town.
